Art for AIDS was first developed in 1986, during Colorado AIDS Project’s (CAP) early years as a non-profit. The inaugural Art for AIDS had 16 pieces of donated artwork and was attended by 50 individuals. Today, CAP is the largest and most effective AIDS service organization in the Rocky Mountain Region. Art for AIDS has grown along with CAP, becoming one of Denver's premier fundraising events. Art for AIDS attracts approximately 700 individuals and over 300 donated pieces of artwork annually.
Over the past two decades, Art for AIDS has raised more than $1.5 million in order to prevent the spread of HIV and assist people living with HIV and AIDS through CAP’s comprehensive service delivery system. These services include case management, housing, mental health and substance abuse counseling, transportation, financial aid, and access to CAP's award-winning food bank. Over the last 25 years, Colorado AIDS Project has served 75% of those living with HIV/AIDS in Colorado.
